After the serious protestations yesterday, Pepper picked through his seed and pellets to get to his mush today, chirping happily the entire time.
*cue happy dance, chorus line style* Progress is being made!
He is now happily shredding his little booklet toy. *sigh* Happy healthy bird.. yay!
No, there are no sled dogs involved here, mush as in what I fed my bird this afternoon.
I have come to the conclusion that getting him to eat healthy takes not only patience and persistence it is also takes being conniving, devious, and down right underhanded on occasion.
I have practice in this department though! My ex-husband was a meat and potatoes guy, literally, he would NOT eat vegetables at ALL. Of course he also wouldn’t eat leftovers or anything without ketchup (he learned! When Kate says “Dinner is leftovers” You eat left overs or starve!) He would however eat sweet things, icecream, candy, cookies, cakes, pudding… LOVED my chocolate pudding. Of course I didn’t tell him that the “chocolate” was chocolate flavoured meal replacement mix… see I have experience with being conniving, devious and underhanded.
Today was day one of “Mush”. Pepper likes his seeds, he REALLY likes his seeds. Soooo..
1 Carrot (peeled, I don’t trust what might be on that peel for me to eat.. like I would feed it to my bird)
1 Broccoli Floret
1 Cauliflower Floret
1 Slice Fresh Pineapple
8 Fresh Strawberries
1/4 Green Pepper
1/4 cup Water
Combine all in blender until you have…. MUSH!
Place a small amount in bottom of food dish (freeze remaining mush for future evil purposes). Cover with a thin layer of seeds. Serve to bird. Sit back and watch bird attack seeds. Watch bird realize he just got a mouthful of “healthy” with his seed. Watch bird spit and glare at you for several minutes. Ignore pouting and huffing at you for “daring” to be so mean. Giggle as bird realizes you have no intention of rectifying what was obviously a horrible oversight on your part, gives up and goes back to carefully picking the seed out of the mush. Attempt to not notice when 10 minutes later bird is now happily playing in, if not actually eating the mush. Above all, try not to laugh when bird comes out of cage for cuddles and his beak is covered in the remnants of the mush and bird proceeds to “wipe” his beak on your shirt.. then eat the little bits of mush off your shoulder.
Hey! It was the convoluted way to do it.. but he ate it!
What started as a general place for me to ramble has gone to the birds… well bird in this case. Soooo….
Welcome to “Pepper Pages”!
Share in my obsession… you know you want to…
Pellets!! My bird eats pellets! I can now relax a bit and slowly work on the veggies.
So what happens when you put Matt and Kate in front of a paint program to do a rough sketch of an Aviary?
Be afraid..
Please note the stunning features… including sky garden, See through tree and a door that only Stickman can use!
Stickman and Weiner Bird! Taking Custom Aviary Design to a whole new level!

He ate sprouts!! FINALLY!
Yes I am a little excited can you tell? I actually squealed and giggled and did a little hop thing… he ate something that wasn’t seeds! hehehehe!
The bird bread was a no. He nibbled it, but that was about it. Why must my little bird be so stubborn?
21! Lets see 2+1=3.. hmmm … that sounds about right!

Less than three and then some

Since the arrival of Pepper I have been combing the internet trying to learn everything I can about love birds and parrots. Conclusion: There is A LOT to learn! It all becomes very confusing after a while. So much to learn, hard to keep straight.. soooo
My project. Compile all the bits and pieces that I find together in one place.. and post it here on it’s own page! Ambitious? Definitely. Will I manage? Doubtful. Will I learn a lot on the way? Absolutely.
Sounds fun doesn’t it?
